			<title>NPD: Injustice: Gods Among Us May&#039;s best-selling game in US</title>

			<description><![CDATA[Fighting game the month&#039;s top-seller, followed by Black Ops II and Donkey Kong: Country Returns; total software sales slide 25 percent.  
Injustice: Gods Among Us was the best-selling title in the United States during May, a month that saw steep overall industry declines, according to data published by the NPD Group today. The fighting game from Warner Bros. was also April&#039;s best-selling game in the US.

                                
                                

Rounding out the top five best-sellers were Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Donkey Kong: Country Returns, Dead Island: Riptide, and Luigi&#039;s Mansion: Dark Moon. 

Overall, total industry sales slid a significant 25 percent to $386.3 million. According to the NPD Group analyst Liam Callahan, however, this data represents only about half of the true consumer retail spend for the month. 

&quot;These sales figures represent new physical retail sales of hardware, software, and accessories, which account for roughly 50 percent of the total consumer spend on games,&quot; Callahan said in a statement.  

&quot;When taking into account our preliminary estimate for other physical format sales in May such as used and rentals at $91 million, and our estimate for digital format sales including full game and add-on content downloads including micro-transactions, subscriptions, mobile apps, and the consumer spend on social network games at $339 million, the total consumer spend in May is $787 million.&quot;

On the hardware front, total sales dropped 31 percent to $96 million. The Xbox 360 was the top-selling console platform for the 29th straight month, moving 114,000 units in the period (down from 270,000 last year). The 3DS posted the best year-over-year trend, Callahan said.

&quot;Nintendo&#039;s 3DS edged out the 360 as the top selling platform across hardware and portables.  However, the 360 was the top selling console hardware platform this month for the twenty-ninth consecutive month,&quot; Callahan said. &quot;The 3DS had the best year-over-year trending for hardware units, with units sales essentially flat from last May.&quot;

Sony has not disclosed PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita sales for May.

 As for software, this category saw the most precipitous fall, diving 44 percent to $187.6 million. 
 
&quot;Softness in new physical entertainment software sales stemmed from a decline in the number of new launches, with over 30 percent fewer new SKUs, as well as poor performance of the new SKUs that were released,&quot; Callahan said.  &quot;New SKUs generated over seventy percent less units on a per-SKU basis, and a decrease of over eighty percent revenue per SKU.&quot;

Nintendo 3DS software sales were a bright spot for the month, up 60 percent from May 2012. In addition, three 3DS titles factored into the top-ten chart for May.
 
&quot;Overall entertainment software declines, down forty-four percent, were driven partly by sharp year-over-year declines within PC games due to poor comparisons to last year&#039;s Diablo III release,&quot; Callahan said.

&quot;In May 2013, the top 10 games represented a lower percentage of sales compared to games from the previous few Mays at 18 percent of overall unit sales and 25 percent of overall dollars, compared to 30 percent of units and 45 percent of dollars in May 2012,&quot; Callahan continued. &quot;This is contrary to trends we&#039;ve been seeing over the last few years with the top ten games generating a larger percentage of overall sales and may be indicative of the weak new launch performance this May.&quot;

 The accessories category posted the smallest declines, falling only 6 percent to $115.3 million.

&quot;This is best May for point and subscription card sales on record for both unit and dollar sales,&quot; Callahan said. &quot;Year-to-date, Skylanders accessory sales are trending positively, up close to fifty percent in unit sales and sixty percent in dollars compared to last year.&quot;

			<description><![CDATA[Avalanche boss Christofer Sundberg claims most games don&#039;t offer enough replayability; says Just Cause 2 still has &quot;hundreds of thousands&quot; of daily players.  
Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg believes most games are too short and that is why they are traded in. Speaking with Edge, Sundberg said games that are longer--or more replayable--are less likely to sold back to retailers. 

                                
                                

&quot;I&#039;m sure it&#039;s been an issue but that&#039;s because games have been too short,&quot; Sundberg said about why used games have been a hot topic of late. &quot;I mean, when you can play a game through from 8 to 10 hours, I would return the game too, because there&#039;s no reason for players to play it again.&quot;

Sundberg said Just Cause 2, released in March 2012, still has &quot;hundreds of thousands&quot; of daily players, demonstrating the strength of a highly replayable game.

&quot;If you&#039;re offering little variation, then there&#039;s no motivation for the player to keep that game--unless they want to have a nice bookshelf. That&#039;s why we answered that with Just Cause. I go into game stores each week and I always go to the used game boxes--I usually don&#039;t find that many [copies of Just Cause].&quot;

Mario and Zelda company Nintendo shared a similar opinion. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said developers concerned over used game sales should make more compelling and replayable titles so that gamers do not trade them in. 

The latest project from Avalanche Studios is Mad Max, which will release in 2014 published by Warner Bros. The car combat-focused game does not feature any multiplayer.

			<description><![CDATA[One of the first images of a “Made for iPhone” controller has surfaced online, which appears specifically to depict a third-party gamepad manufactured by Logitech. Apple is indeed adding support for third-party controllers in iOS 7, and as such countless iPhone-compatible gamepads are sure to arrive on Apple Store shelves before the end of the year.
The above image reached us from Kotaku, who explains:
Can’t tell you who gave it to us or where it was seen, but we can vouch for this image’s authenticity. The controller is large enough to fit an iPhone 5.
This will, we assume, be one of many controllers to appear for the iPhone, though Logitech’s forthcoming product does give us a better idea of what we can expect later in the year.
As you can see, a D-pad on the left of the accessory is accompanied by four buttons (plus an option button) on the right-hand side, and is reminiscent of handheld consoles such as the Nintendo DS or PS Vita. With Apple’s iDevices already constituting some of the most popular handheld gaming consoles in the world, it’s clear that the availability of “Made for iPhone” gamepads is only going to further encourage portable gamers to use an iDevice for on the go gaming, instead.

Throughout the history of home game consoles, it&#039;s been notoriously difficult for a leader in one generation to maintain its leadership in the next generation. Sony, for example, went from dominance of the sixth-generation console market, knocking Sega out of the hardware business as Microsoft was gearing up for the original Xbox, to a third-place finish in terms of installed base with its seventh-generation entry, the PlayStation 3. Last November, Switched On discussed how Nintendo turned its back on much of what made the Wii a success, at least in that console&#039;s early days. Sony, though, seems to have carefully studied the lessons of the PlayStation 3 and has made many changes in the PlayStation 4 to address that console&#039;s challenges.

We&#039;re a rational company, we go where the audience is. We publish games where we think we can make a great game and hit a big audience, and make money. 			<title>Mario Golf 3DS delayed into 2014</title>

			<description><![CDATA[Nintendo pushes Mario Golf: World Tour out of summer release window and into next year.
  
Mario Golf won&#039;t come to the 3DS on time. Nintendo revealed during an E3 2013 analyst briefing this week (via Polygon) that Mario Golf: World Tour has been delayed into 2014. 

                                
                                

The game was announced in February with a summer 2013 release window. No reason for the delay was provided.

Mario Golf: World Tour is in development at series shop Camelot Software and promises to offer modes that both simplify the series for beginners and add complexity for experts.

Mario Golf: World Tour will be the sixth Mario Golf game in a series that has been running since 1999, with previous titles appearing on the N64, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube.
