Xbox One's next-gen Kinect is coming to Windows

Xbox One won't be the only one getting in on the next generation of motion-tracking – the new version of Kinect will also be coming to Windows PCs.Kinect Program Manager Scott Evans told Shacknews that Microsoft "will bring [Kinect] to PC", adding that there will be more information "soon".While a firmer date would be nice (though the omission is unsurprising as the new console hasn't even been given a release date) we now have confirmation from the horse's mouth that the general Xbox-Windows relationship will still be going strong on the One.Nice little gestureWhile still good news, this isn't all that surprising; the current Kinect made its way to PC in early 2012, just over a year after its Xbox 360 release. The new Kinect, however, has taken a serious step up over its predecessor. Simply saying "Xbox on" will now boot up the console, and if last night's demonstration was anything to go by, Kinect instantly responds to voice controls and motion gestures.Microsoft says Kinect 2 detects motion in just 12 billionths of a second, while the sensor has a resolution of 1080p.

XBOX REVEAL: Xbox One release date and price: where can I get it?

The Xbox One has been unveiled, described by Microsoft as "the ultimate all in one entertainment system - one system for a new generation."You can check out a full round-up of everything you need to know about the Xbox One here, and also how it compares to the PS4 while you're at it.As for release date, Microsoft says the console will be released "later this year", but we expect it to offer something more concrete at E3 in just a few weeks. Of course, a few places are already taking pre-orders. Before the launch, a $500 (about £330, AU$510) was rumoured, however Zavvi is currently posting the console's price at £400, which is around what we expected.BlockbusterBlockBuster was the first to kick off pre-orders on its site - almost as soon as the Xbox One was revealed. You'll need to put down a £20 deposit, but that's not all that bad if the £400 price tag is to be believed.GameGame is also taking pre-orders on its site also with a £20 deposit - and in stores starting May 22 (that's today).ZavviZavvihas the console listed on its site for pre-order at £399.99. We've contact them to check whether this is just an estimate or an actual RRP set by Microsoft, and will update as soon as we get confirmation. The site also has a release date set as November 30, though again this could just be Zavvi taking a wild stab in the dark right now.AmazonAmazon meanwhile just has its "pre-order notifications" page up for the console, with no sign of pricing yet.ShopToYou can also put down a pre-order over on ShopTo, which has also set the console price for £399.99. Bear in mind though that it may just have noticed Zavvi's pricing and set it as the same, so don't take this as a promise of what the official price will be.

Xbox Reveal: The Xbox One's TV functions will work in Australia at some point

With the big Xbox One reveal, Microsoft took a lot of time to emphasise the entertainment functions of the consoleBut in an interview with TechRadar, Adam Pollington, Marketing manager at Microsoft Australia, explained that the rollout of the TV features won't happen straight away."The goal is definitely to roll out those services to all markets where Xbox One is launching. We're obviously working in each independent market to ensure that we can account the services across different TV systems, because obviously TV was a piece that was showcased quite heavily this morning," he said."But we are looking to cater for the way in which TV is delivered in each market, so whether that's over the air, whether that's through the internet, or whether that's through a Pay TV or a cable set top box, we are ensuring that we can allow for those different services within each market."Given Australia's love affair with free-to-air TV, we expect that to mean that the service we receive will be vastly different to the cable-solution preferred in the US.Appiness is a state of mindThe shift to making the Xbox an entertainmnet hub rather than a games machine is nothing new, so shouldn't really be a surprise. Already on the Xbox 360, there are dedicated ways of accessing TV through services like ABC iView, SBS On Demand or Foxtel on Xbox. But according to Pollington, those apps won't automatically jump across to the One."We've got nothing to announce around local app partners at this time. But you can be sure that we are working to deliver the best experience for Australians in terms of delivering on that next generation TV and entertainment services," he said. While that's a bit of a non-answer, when pressed whether the new console's infrastructure will make the rollout of entertainment apps and services easier, Pollington confessed:"I think that's a fair assumption to make," he said."With the HDMI-in functionality, it certainly does make it a lot easier to connect a number of other devices through to your Xbox One console, which of course we didn't have with the Xbox 360. With HDMI-in, you'll have the ability to connect your TV straight to the box, so effectively getting over the air TV, satellite or cable TV, or however it's delivered in your market, without the need for additional development on the TV apps, per se."So without a doubt, we've come a long way to being able to deliver those experiences in a more timely fashion," Pollington said. The Foxtel question?Given the close partnership Microsoft has developed with Aussie Pay TV operator Foxtel in offering the Foxtel on Xbox service, it's not unreasonable to assume that the companies are working together to make Foxtel on Xbox One even better.Pollington wouldn't be drawn on the issue, but a Foxtel spokesperson did offer a statement on the new console:"Foxtel is thrilled to have brought the experience of Foxtel on Xbox 360 to our Australian customers who have found it to be a fantastic way to enjoy our great content. We're watching Microsoft's latest announcement with keen interest and will keep you posted on any developments as they happen."That doesn't exactly sound like the two companies are deep in negotiations, does it? We'll find out whether that's important once Microsoft gives us a launch date for the console.
Deezer outs Xbox Live app, available now to Premium+ subscribers in Europe

While Microsoft may have unveiled a new generation of its Xbox console yesterday, some companies are still trying to get a piece of real estate on the current ecosystem. Today, Deezer announced that it's making a debut on Xbox Live, giving (some) users of the streaming service access to its extensive music repertoire right from the 360. The app will be available "across Europe" for now, and mum's the word on when, or if, Deezer plans to launch in more markets. For those living in The Old Continent, however, all you'll need is a Premium+ subscription and, as is often the case with similar offerings, a Gold membership on Xbox Live.

A month after opening its virtual doors to everyone, Tempo has received another significant update.
Developed at SRI International, the nonprofit research institute where Siri was created, Tempo is a smart calendar app optimized for iPhone and iPod touch. And just like Siri, Tempo is intelligent — intelligent in that it’s able to enhance your meetings and events by connecting emails, contacts, and location data to your calendar.
And it has just become even more intelligent with the arrival of its latest update.
The new update adds the ability to invite and add attendees to meetings and events. Now you can invite attendees by accessing your contacts and emails or by adding new contacts right within Tempo. What’s more, Tempo suggests other probable attendees after you’ve sent your invites.
The update also brings support for sharing or forwarding your events. Note that the people you share or forward events to are not added as attendees.

If you can’t see the video embedded above, please click here.
Moreover, the update gives you the ability to set default alerts for every meeting in the app’s settings section.
Also, it lets you set the Gmail iOS app as your preferred email sending method, instead of the default iOS Mail client.
The new Tempo update also includes the following improvements:

Polished ‘Day’ and ‘Week’ views, Settings, and more
Dots on Monthly view properly refresh
Fix for downloading Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents
Color codes for calendar types properly display
Declined events are no longer displayed, including Facebook events

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, the new version of Tempo Smart Calendar is available now in the App Store for free.

Xbox Reveal: How to jump in line for the Xbox One

If you just can't wait until "later this year" to put your order in for the Xbox One, you've got a duo of options to jump on the bandwagon at this very moment. The Microsoft Store is taking pre-order notification sign ups, meaning you can enter your email address to receive an alert about when you can actually pre-order the console. There is an incentive to signing up now in the form of $10 promo code, good for the next purchase you make in the Microsoft Online Store. Hit up Amazon Amazon is also accepting get-an-alert sign ups for the world's newest console. Simply head on over to Amazon.com, search for Xbox One, and hit the yellow "sign up" button on the right. You can also put in word you want to know when the console's controller becomes available through the online retailer as well. Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One during a live event in Redmond, Wash. today, giving us a look at its first console in eight years. It's fine for gaming, we're sure, but Microsoft put a lot of weight in the console's TV and entertainment capabilities, rarely referring to the Xbox One as a gaming device. We've gathered all the data on this new entrant into the console wars in our hub page, so give it a gander if you're curious whether the wait was worth it.
