The experience has also received a dedicated app for tablets running Google's mobile OS, sporting a look that makes better use of the extra screen real estate, and a skinned remote to boot.
AT&T To Enable FaceTime Over Cellular For All Users By The End Of The Year

In a statement provided to The Verge, AT&T has confirmed that by the end of 2013, subscribers will be able to use “any” mobile video chat application over the carrier’s cellular data network, “regardless of data plan or device.” While FaceTime over cellular is already available for certain AT&T subscribers, the announcement indicates that all customers – even those presently enjoying an unlimited data plan – will be able to access Apple’s built-in video calling service over AT&T’s cellular data network.
The carrier noted that:

For video chat apps that come pre-loaded on devices, we currently give all OS and device makers the ability for those apps to work over cellular for our customers who are on Mobile Share or Tiered plans. Apple, Samsung and BlackBerry have chosen to enable this for their pre-loaded video chat apps. And by mid-June, we’ll have enabled those apps over cellular for our unlimited plan customers who have LTE devices from those three manufacturers.
Throughout the second half of this year, we plan to enable pre-loaded video chat apps over cellular for all our customers, regardless of data plan or device; that work is expected to be complete by year end.
Today, all of our customers can use any mobile video chat app that they download from the Internet, such as Skype.

As a reminder, AT&T made FaceTime over cellular available to subscribers on tiered data plans back in January. However, the carrier noted, at the time, that subscribers lucky enough to be “grandfathered” into maintaining their original unlimited data plans would be unable to access Apple’s video calling software over a cellular data network.
Fortunately, this is soon to change.
According to 9to5Mac, a number of LTE-enabled iDevice owners with unlimited AT&T data plans are, in fact, already able to access FaceTime over cellular, despite the carrier’s estimate that the feature would be available “by mid-June.” At the moment, we are unsure whether non-LTE-enabled iDevice owners are also able to access cellular video calling over FaceTime ahead of schedule (as noted above, this feature is guaranteed to arrive by the end of 2013).
Are you able to access FaceTime over cellular on an unlimited data plan?

Katie Couric acknowledges one-sided violent video games report

Network journalist acknowledges one-sided violent video game report; invitations to Bungie and the Entertainment Software Association were declined.
Journalist Katie Couric has acknowledged the misrepresentation of gamers in her recent hour-long report on violent video games.

Following the broadcast of the show, Couric reached out via social media network Twitter to encourage those who were upset by the segment to send messages that spoke of the positive side of video games.

Couric has since acknowledged the report was one-sided, stating, "It probably would have been a good idea to have somebody on the other side of the debate". Couric added that efforts were made to invite industry body the Entertainment Software Association and game developer Bungie onto the show. Both parties had declined.

The special report, titled "Are Video Games Ruining Your Life?" was aired on April 29. The segment included a testimony from Daniel Petric, who cited video games as being a "catalyst" for shooting and killing his
mother on October 20, 2007.

Highlights from the report can be viewed on the Katie website.

Facebook's native Share Dialog for iOS exits beta, now ready for developers

Now that Facebook's share feature has settled into its own mobile apps, the firm has pushed its native Share Dialog for iOS out of beta, which allows developers to bake the function into their own applications. With just an extra line of code, apps will allow users to share things, tag friends and note their location without having to log into the social network or connect the app to their account first, removing some hassle from the equation. In addition, the built-in sharing options in iOS 6 can be bolstered with Open Graph actions. Click the source link below to snatch Zuckerberg and Co.'s latest SDK for Apple's mobile OS, or hit the second link for the docs.

Aiming To Dominate Mobile Ad Attribution, HasOffers Raises $9.4M Round Led By Accel

HasOffers, a startup that helps mobile app developers see which ad efforts are actually paying off, is announcing that it has raised a $9.4 million round of funding led by Accel Partners.
The company was founded in 2009 — the product that it initially built, and the one that’s still highlighted on the HasOffers website, is a system that helps ad networks and agencies manage their performance-based programs. (Those agencies and ad networks include Bucksense, Tapjoy, and Sponsorpay.)
However, CEO Peter Hamilton said the team realized that mobile advertisers were facing a similar problem, so it built a product called MobileAppTracking, allowing developers to see where app installs, engagement, and purchases actually come from. So as publishers run ad campaigns, they can see which social networks, publishers, and ad networks are giving them the best results, and they can adjust their efforts accordingly.
Rich Wong, the Accel partner who’s joining the HasOffers board, definitely sounded more excited about the mobile side of the business when I spoke to him today. (Wong’s past investments include Google-acquired AdMob and Angry Birds-maker Rovio.) He said “some of the biggest spenders in the Accel portfolio, people who are on the cutting edge of doing customer acquisition,” such as HotelTonight, Spotify, and Trulia, were already using MobileAppTracking. (Other customers include Yahoo, Zynga, Pandora, and Square.)
Wong also argued that the company is part of towards a broader shift in mobile advertising. He said the industry’s first phase, was the early “walled garden” period, followed by a second stage dominated by ad networks like AdMob, Quattro (acquired by Apple), and Millennial (now public). The third, current phase is all about the shift to programmatic buying — in Wong’s words, “the machines are taking over.” In this phase, developers are running campaigns with a wide range of different sources, so they need a better attribution system.
And that system needs to be independent of any of the existing ad networks, so it can measure all sources of traffic effectively. After all, Wong said, many networks have their own attribution systems, and while they might work fine, publishers probably don’t feel entirely confident that AdMob’s can report accurately about one of its competitors, or vice versa. That point about independence came up repeatedly during our conversation, with Wong emphasizing that HasOffers is a software business, not a company that’s selling ads.
“One of the reasons we’re able to do what we do with over 150 ad networks and publishers is that we’re not competitive with them,” Hamilton added.
Until now, Hamitlon said HasOffers has been bootstrapped and profitable, with 79 employees, so it didn’t necessarily need the money. At the same time, he said the mobile ad tracking product has really taken off: “We saw an opportunity to put our stake in the ground as the attribution analytics platform, and we didn’t want it to pass us by.” For now, that means continuing to invest heavily on the technology and product side of the business.
In addition to Accel, RealNetworks founder Rob Glaser and Founder’s Co-op partner Chris Devore also invested. (Glaser and Devore are both based in Seattle, as is HasOffers.) Even though HasOffers is a bit older than your normal Series A company, and even though Accel has a separate fund for investing in bootstrapped, mature companies, this specific investment came from Accel’s early-stage fund: “Even though it has characteristics of a ‘growth-stage business’, we looked at it as an early-stage Series A.”

Samsung's Wallet app launches in Korea

Samsung showed off its Wallet app to developers earlier this year, and now Korean customers can download it onto compatible Android devices from the company's own app market. Currently it only appears to collect credit card info, which customers can then use to pay for goods and services at online merchants, verified by a one-time password or PIN. Clearly aimed at both Google Wallet and Passbook, the plan is to add more features we've seen in the latter that will make tickets, membership cards and coupons accessible all in one place. According to the translated press release it's out for the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S II HD LTE, although whether it will be featured in a Gangnam Style 2 video remains unknown.

Sky Sports for iPad adds more live camera options ahead of Champions League final

It's not uncommon for the Sky Sports iPad application to receive features tailored for fans of the world's beautiful game, soccer (or football, if you want to get technical). To that end, Sky today released version 5.4 of the app ahead of next week's UEFA Champions League final. Viewers will now be able to choose from up to 20 camera angles when watching game highlights, which should go hand-in-hand with the recent inclusion of that second screen experience. The update also brings the ability to view selected clips in slow-mo -- and, hey, the way Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are currently playing, we're definitely going to need to take things down a notch.

Updated: E3 2013: what to expect from this year's show

The three E's of E3 stand for the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Hosted by the Entertainment Software Association, or ESA, it's an annual sneak peek at what's in store for the videogames industry for next year. But enough dry details, this E3 2013 promises to be the most revelatory in years. Why? Because of the coming console war. Sony's PlayStation 4 is about to square off against the Xbox 720, or whatever Microsoft names it, for living room supremacy. But those aren't the only horses in the race. Nintendo's Wii U is already on the track, though Nintendo already revealed it's staging a semi-E3 hold out. And then let's not forget PC gaming and its de facto dark horse, the Steam Box by Valve.YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x06SOTQrgZAWhat thrills, spills and chills will await us E3 2013? None can be too certain, but we have some predictions for what you'll see on stage and around the showfloor. So read our list, mull it over, have your say in the comments and check back June 11-13 for TechRadar's E3 coverage from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Here's the latest we've heard about the conference:1. Xbox plans press event for June 10Props to Microsoft for keeping its word on an Xbox-themed event for E3 - not that we ever doubted it would happen. The company sent out invites to a press briefing for June 10 in Los Angeles, one day before E3 officially gets underway. This is decided an Xbox event, and we hope to "continue the conversation" on the company's new Xbox following its May 21 happening. We'll be there to cover the action live, so do please check back in for more. Read more about Microsoft's June 10 event2. No Nintendo press conferenceNintendo has made the somewhat surprising decision to forgo its usual E3 press conference in favor of hosting a smaller, closed-doors events to focus primarily on software. "We have decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past," said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. "Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the US market."We must say we're a bit bothered by Nintendo's decision, if only in an altruistic way because it stands to loose some serious ground to competitors Sony and Microsoft. We'll see what Nintendo decides to show, but it will certainly lose out on a lot of E3 buzz.Granted, we're not complete Nintendo naysayers. Its newest console is not next gen, but it's not bad either. We gave it a three and a half stars in our Wii U review. The GamePad is cool, and finally seeing Mario in HD is a welcome uptick. However, most of the world is for PS4 and 720, or just sticking with their Xbox, as the nearly eight-year-old Xbox 360 sold four times as many units as the Wii U did last month. In fact, even the old Wii is selling better. We know Nintendo has some game titles on the way and we hope it can build enough excitement around these titles to carry it into its next big offering. Whenever that happens. 3. Microsoft to reveal more on the Xbox 720Microsoft has a very big Xbox announcement planned for May 21, where we fully expect the new Xbox will be revealed. Whether we actually see the new console or only hear about it (a la the PS4), we won't know until the day of, but what we do know is that Microsoft is saving some more news for E3. "With E3 only a couple of months away, we look forward to sharing more shortly," Microsoft CFO Peter Klein uttered during a company earnings call on April 18 as he spoke about the growth of the Xbox and Xbox live. Then, a few days later, the company revealed it has an #XboxReveal event planned for May but will "continue the conversation at E3" and showcase a full line-up of blockbuster games at the show. Beyond game titles and the potential of seeing the device, there's a chance Microsoft may use E3 to introduce a new Xbox 360 platform or a less-frill filled Xbox Mini, but we think the Xbox 720 will be the real star here.
